me and our generation

My body is a cage
that keeps me from dancing
with the one I love,
but my mind holds the key.

My body is a cage
that keeps me from dancing
with the one I love,
but my mind holds the key.

I'm standing on a stage
of fear and self-doubt.
It's a hollow play,
but they'll clap anyway.

My body is a cage
that keeps me from dancing
with the one I love,
but my mind holds the key.

You're standing next to me.
My mind holds the key.

I'm living in an age
that calls darkness light.
Though my language is dead,
still the shapes fill my head.

I'm living in an age
whose name I don't know.
Though the fear keeps me moving,
still my heart beats so slow.

My body is a cage
that keeps me from dancing
with the one I love,
but my mind holds the key.

You're standing next to me.
My mind holds the key.
My body is a...

My body is a cage.
We take what we're given.
Just because you've forgotten,
that don't mean you're forgiven.

I'm living in an age
that screams my name at night,
But when I get to the doorway
there's no one in sight.

I'm living in an age:
They laugh when I'm dancing
With the one I love
But my mind holds the key.

You're standing next to me.
My mind holds the key.

Set my spirit free.
Set my spirit free.
Set my body free.
Set my body free.

Set my spirit free.
Set my body free.

more inspiration

Liz Doupnik from Stylelikeu.com from Stylelikeu on Vimeo.

Liz is a master of interpreting fashion and making it her own: whether it is classic, of the moment or an original invention. I appreciate her love of the pieces that are time-honored like the naval officer’s blazer with oversized boyfriend shirts and the cleanest of clean mini coat with thick tights and flats. However, I also love how Liz will jump right into her own rendition of last fall’s Nina Ricci tights pulled over a shoe and Rodarte’s arty, cut up leggings, without hesitation. To me, she is so inventive while remaining flawless in taste, in her juxtapositions of masculine and feminine. Mixing the unexpected is the key to style and Liz exemplifies this in her silk slips with combat boots and sheer blouses with the motorcycle jackets. She is fearless, and a stylist in the truest sense of the word, in her drive to experiment. It was a first for me to see a skirt as dress, with the waste on her shoulders, and a boot cut to make a spat. I live for this kind of inspiration.

I walked away from Nana’s shoot obsessing over the pair of baggy man’s trousers and remembering that no matter how many pairs of drop crotch pants that I own, nothing looks better than the classics. They were from Uniqlo, but she makes them look like they are from savile row. Every piece of clothing of Nana’s is quintessentially understated. Her camel strappy pump, plaid blazer and khaki trench are vintage Ferragamo, but at student prices and with her “cute” twist. Nana makes the sailor jumper the new navy blazer, everyone has to have one.

totally love their style. it's not right in your face, nearly minimalistic, with interesting cuts, asymmetries and layers, inspiring, timeless fabrics and warm reduced colours, masculin boyish, but at the same time feminin

guys who wear clothes

love his style and attitude

James says that there isn’t any separation between his clothes and his personality. I can see exactly what he means when he espouses wanting to feel like he is on a rowboat off the coast of Iceland covered in mist with his preference for dark colors, natural fabrics, and shrouds. He is about to embark on a journey of his nomadic existence by leaving NYC and moving to the woods outside of Seattle to make his album, where he feels that the different set of boundaries and a quieter place will encourage his creativity and tap into his affinity for native music. His hoods, exaggerated turtlenecks, asymmetrically draped coats and chunky cardigans work on the boat in Northern Europe as much as they do in Manhattan and in the forest. I don’t really see how he survived the suburbs of Orlando, where shocking as it seems, he did try fitting in for a minute in cargo khaki shorts. James was born in Ohio, raised in New Mexico and Florida, and then at 16 moved to Sweden. Scandanavian culture is his biggest reference point, everything from the natural beauty of the intense darkness and cold to the indigenous culture of the Sami tribe, where everything means something, from their intricate dress to their shaman drumming to their attunement to nature in their traditions. Feathers are James’ fetish accessory and he wraps himself in them when he performs. However, he is still striving to achieve the unapologetic dark artistry of his favorite singer, Karin Andersson of Fever Ray, whose originality manifests in things like her performing in a Buffalo hide. James’ favorite cartoon character is his tattoo, Snufkin, the Finnish archetype who follows his heart and his dreams and wears his clothes until they fall apart. When you wear your clothes until they fall off, the meaning of them takes on mythological proportions, much like everything does in James’ life.

I think I've been conned out on Ebay! Fuck. Would be the first time after nearly 9 years of bidding and buying there. Fuck, and I was totally excited about the jacket. Fuck

procrastination

the old theme

the old theme: sitting here in library although it's the perfect autumn weather, lots of sun, not too cold, lovely colours. But I do have to work. I know I can't change that, but I would like to share some of the lovely atmosphere, just to get the motivation to work and not to mourn the missed chance. But if I want to connect with people I have to get in touch. There are no easy fellows, someone who calls you just to spend and enjoy some time. It's hard work for me to have that. And I'm truly envious of people who have it. How much easier would it be if I had a different flat share. Most of the time I feel like living alone; the students are missing! There's no one to share the small things in life

the library of university is my new home. wish it would look like this:

                                            New York Public Libary

                                          Trinity College Library

I realised that I accomplish here more than at home, especially when the girls are around as well. So you don't get the feeling you're all alone, locked up in your room reading, writing and learning. AND: you can still keep a social life! somehow a lot of people hang around here these days. you can go through it together

My room still looks kinda like this:
