There's a counterexample now: Dead Man's Bones, with the beloved Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields.
They draw you into a world full of ghosts, monsters and zombies, in the background a choir of children - creepy. Wonderfully creepy! A world where everything is possible. A children's fairytale. It warms your heart, just like a Tim Burton movie does.

It get's to you with its timeless atmosphere, it's classical instrumentation and production which let's the music generate into warm darkness.
The voice of Ryan Gosling reminds me of something, something old, former times when music had an different class and was recognized a lot different, appreciated. Like an old battered photo of loved ones. It's an habit, kind of an addiction to take it out of your wallet to look at it, just like you can't stop yourself to click on the play-button again.
Or it just reminds me of some other band, but I don't know..
